The Somsen 301 Management Information Systems (MIS) classroom modernization program continues this fall. New paint, new carpet, an additional projection screen, chalkboards that are now whiteboards and the addition of more data and power outlets has created a more pleasant learning environment. The new HP x360 laptops required additional cabling to hook up to the external 24-inch monitors. We are piloting HP USB-C docks which provide data, video, networking and power through a single 10Gbps Thunderbolt cable. By Fall 2018, USB-C Thunderbolt should be on all WSU laptop models, greatly simplifying classroom connections for students, faculty, and staff.

Adobe Connect web conferencing is used in several classes. This allows students to learn and master video-conferencing in a non-threatening environment, preparing them for their careers.

This year we will continue Supplemental Learning Sessions in Somsen 301 on most Fridays. Students drop in as needed for assistance from our teaching assistants and professors. Members of the business community occasionally drop in to make presentations, discuss the latest trends in technology and mingle with and advise the students. Providing a notice in advance will allow us to work with you and let the students know what you are going to discuss. Home-made food is also provided at the sessions from Mary Paulson.

For more details for attending the MIS class (either in-person or via web conference), Friday Supplemental Learning, or to arrange a private showing, please contact Professor Pat Paulson at ppaulson@winona.edu
