This past fall the College of Business put on another memorable event – Merchants Bank Day. The event featured many booths addressing careers in business banking, human resources, cash management solutions, commercial banking, finance, accounting, agricultural lending, investment banking, and much more.
This wasn’t like any other career fair, though. Students were invited to visit each booth to learn about each different career option, where they would earn a ticket to use at the Merchants Bank Money Machine – an interactive station where students get seven seconds to collect as many prizes as possible. Prizes included dollar bills and tickets to earn an even bigger prize.
The President of Merchants Bank, Andrew Guzzo, was present and offered advice and recommendations for students considering banking as a potential career path. “It is very common to switch roles while working at a bank. Merchants Bank is known for their ‘promote from within policy,’ so you can start off as being a teller or a personal lender, and work your way up to becoming an analyst or a vice president,” Guzzo said. In addition, he shared “it really all depends on what you like to do.”
Words of Wisdom
“Once you find a passion, keep learning and keep growing. Keep being curious about your passion, and grow and learn from what you find.” – Andrew Guzzo, Merchants Bank President
Thank you, Merchants Bank for giving College of Business students the opportunity to learn about career options, while networking to get their foot in the door.
