Marissa Williams graduated with a degree in Marketing. Below, she reflects on her time at WSU.
Why did you choose WSU?
Winona State initially appealed to me because the scenery is breathtaking – it does not compare to where I grew up. WSU seemed like the perfect fit from the moment I walked on to campus. I remember how kind and welcoming not only the admissions staff, but all students were; the “Minnesota nice” personality seemed to stand out in everyone on campus. The school is also large enough where I knew I would not see the same people everyday, but small enough to where I would know at least one person in each class I took.
What was your favorite part of your WSU experience?
My favorite part of my WSU experience is hands-down the people that I have met and the friends I have made along the way. It may be biased, but I believe Winona State has some of the best people – it would be difficult to not make a few friends being a student here.
Why you are proud to attend/graduate from WSU?
I am proud to graduate from Winona State because I know that I received a great education and that I am fully prepared for the workforce. I will proudly wear my WSU purple every chance I get post-graduation.
Who were some of your mentors at WSU?
I truly cannot name one, or even a few mentors that have helped me along the way. I have had mentors that were students, professors and faculty. It would be an insult to name three or four people that have impacted my life so greatly. Every professor and numerous faculty I have encountered have impacted me academically and personally throughout my three years at WSU.
Do you have any advice for your peers?
My advice to my peers is to work hard, set goals and make a plan. I set short term and long term goals all the time and I work extremely hard to meet or exceed my own expectations. This attitude is the key to success.
What are your plans for after college?
After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school to receive my Masters of Healthcare Administration.
