Winona, Minnesota: A one-of-a-kind student-run business, Walkabout Winona, will celebrate the grand opening of its tour services by offering a free tour at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20. The 90-minute tour will include many wonderful historic downtown buildings and stories. Interested participants should meet in front of the Somsen Hall stairs, located at the intersection of Johnson and 8th streets, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Additional tours will be offered at 3:00 p.m.
Walkabout Winona offers affordable historic walking tours of downtown Winona. The business was created by Winonan Bailey Bestul while he was still in high school and taking classes at WSU. Bestul later approached Dr. Hamid Akbari, Dean of the WSU College of Business, with the idea to have WSU students run Walkabout Winona as their own business.
Walkabout Winona is currently run by a team of eight WSU students. The mission of the business is threefold: To provide College of Business students a way to apply business skills learned in classes in a real-world company, to share the rich history of Winona with visitors, and to encourage engagement between Winona State University, its students, and the community of Winona.
Tours will be scheduled throughout the week and for special groups and occasions. For more information or to book your own tour, visit https://academics.winona.edu/walkabout/.
A special thank you to the WSU Foundation for helping to make this happen!
We are excited to walk with you!
