{"id":1738,"date":"2019-02-01T08:35:18","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T14:35:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/academics.winona.edu\/povwinona\/?p=1738"},"modified":"2019-02-01T08:35:18","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T14:35:18","slug":"spike-lee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/academics.winona.edu\/povwinona\/spike-lee\/","title":{"rendered":"Spike Lee Film Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In celebration of Black History Month 2019, Winona State&#8217;s Film Studies Program is collaborating with the Office of Inclusion and Diversity on the film series &#8220;Resilience and Resistance in the films of Spike Lee.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Spike Lee burst onto the filmmaking scene in the 1980s with films that were provocative, funny, innovative, insightful, and challenging.\u00a0 His classic <em>Do the Right Thing<\/em>, regarded as one of the very best films of the 20th century, celebrates its 30th anniversary this summer.\u00a0 His most recent film, the Oscar-nominated\u00a0<em>BlacKkKlansman<\/em>, returns to some of the same themes and methods\u2014and acclaim\u2014of his earliest work.\u00a0 Attendance for these and all films in the series is free and open to the public.\u00a0 Each program will provide context for the film&#8217;s content and avenues for further discussion.\u00a0 All films take place in Science Laboratory Center 120 at 7 pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, February 14: <em>BlacKkKlansman<\/em> (2018<\/strong>), the recent critical hit based on the true story of the black detective who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan.
